WHAT WE DO

We design learning that connects people with possibility.

Toolbox Learning & Innovation designs learning experiences, programs, and pathways for schools, nonprofits, community organizations, and media organizations—helping people build skills, explore ideas, use technology creatively, and discover what comes next.

Learning is more than a class.

Learning happens everywhere—in classrooms and community spaces, media labs and workplaces, and in experiences that invite people to question, create, experiment, and do.

We help organizations turn those possibilities into learning experiences that are practical, engaging, accessible, and connected to the people they serve.

Technology. Media. Creativity. Opportunity.

They are increasingly part of how people understand the world, express themselves, develop new skills, and imagine what’s possible.

01 — LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Learning happens when people do.

A great learning experience does more than deliver information. It gives people something to explore, practice, create, question, and apply.

We work with organizations to design and strengthen workshops, lessons, learning series, training, and programs that put people at the center.

  • Program and learning experience design
  • Workshops and learning series
  • Lesson and activity development
  • Hands-on and project-based learning
  • Professional learning and training
  • Facilitator resources and learning materials
  • Existing program redesign and enhancement

Whether we’re starting with an idea or strengthening something already underway, the goal is the same: create learning people can use.

02 — Media & Digital Literacy

Navigating technology requires more than knowing which button to push.

We live in a world shaped by algorithms, artificial intelligence, social media, digital information, online communities, and constantly changing technologies. Knowing how to operate a device is only one part of being digitally literate.

People also need opportunities to question what they see, evaluate information, understand how media influences perception, protect themselves online, make informed choices, and participate confidently in digital life.

  • Digital literacy and digital navigation
  • Media and information literacy
  • AI literacy and emerging technologies
  • Misinformation and information evaluation
  • Digital citizenship
  • Media creation and storytelling
  • Critical thinking in digital environments
  • Digital safety, privacy, and responsible technology use

The goal isn’t simply to help people use technology. It’s to help them understand it, question it, create with it, and make informed decisions about the role it plays in their lives.

03 — Creative Technology & Media Arts

Technology becomes more powerful when people create with it.

Creative technology gives people more than technical skills. It gives them tools to tell stories, explore ideas, communicate what matters to them, and turn imagination into something they can share.

We design learning experiences that bring media, technology, and creativity together through hands-on making. Participants learn by experimenting, producing, solving problems, thinking critically, collaborating, and creating their own work.

  • Digital storytelling and media creation
  • Video and filmmaking
  • Podcasting and audio production
  • Photography and visual storytelling
  • Creative technology and emerging tools
  • Production-based learning experiences
  • Youth and adult media programs
  • Project development and creative exploration

The goal isn’t simply to teach people how to use creative tools. It’s to help them develop their voice, make something meaningful, and see themselves as creators.

04 — LEARNING & MEDIA SPACES

Great learning needs spaces designed for participation.

A learning space is more than a room filled with equipment. The way a space is organized, equipped, and used can shape whether people feel comfortable experimenting, collaborating, creating, and learning.

We help organizations think about how physical spaces, technology, media tools, and learning experiences work together—whether strengthening an existing classroom, lab, studio, community learning space, or media environment, or imagining something new.

  • Learning and media space planning
  • Technology and equipment integration
  • Studio and creative learning environments
  • Community technology spaces
  • Flexible and multi-use learning environments
  • Workflow and participant experience
  • Accessibility and ease of use
  • Technology planning for programs and spaces

The goal isn’t technology for technology’s sake. It’s to create spaces where people feel invited to explore, learn, make, and participate.

05 — PATHWAYS & OPPORTUNITY

Learning can open doors.

Learning becomes especially powerful when people can see where their skills, interests, and experiences might take them.

We help organizations create pathways that connect learning with exploration, mentorship, hands-on experience, workforce development, and opportunities to apply skills in real-world settings.

That might mean helping a young person discover a creative career they didn’t know existed, helping someone gain meaningful professional experience, or supporting an adult as they build the confidence and skills to take a next step.

  • Career exploration and exposure
  • Workforce development and readiness
  • Mentorship and professional connections
  • Internships and work-based learning
  • Hands-on professional experiences
  • Portfolio and project development
  • Emerging talent development
  • Community and industry partnerships

Opportunity shouldn’t begin only after someone is ready. Learning can help people discover what’s possible and build a path toward it.

HOW WE WORK

Start with the challenge.

You don’t need to arrive with a finished program or a perfectly defined solution.

Sometimes the work begins with an idea. Sometimes it begins with a program that needs to evolve, a space that isn’t working as intended, a new technology creating new questions, or an opportunity you aren’t quite sure how to build around.

We help organizations understand what’s happening, identify what’s possible, and design a practical path forward.

LISTEN

Understand the people, context, needs, and opportunities.

IMAGINE

Explore possibilities and rethink what learning could look like.

DESIGN

Shape the experience, program, pathway, or environment.

BUILD

Turn the idea into something practical and usable.

STRENGTHEN

Learn from what happens, refine the work, and help it grow.

The solution should fit the people, the purpose, and the place.

What could learning make possible?

Whether you’re developing a new program, reimagining an existing experience, exploring technology and media, or creating new opportunities for the people you serve, we can start with what you’re trying to make possible.
